All doctors deal directly or indirectly with the coronavirus (COVID-19). The KNMG has decided to have all meetings organized by the KNMG for and with doctors take place via video conference or suspended. In doing so, the Doctors' Federation has concretized the RIVM advice for our profession.
Doctors are essential for the continuity of care. It is important in this exceptional period that they remain on their feet. In order to protect healthcare professionals and vulnerable patients against the further spread of COVID-19, the Doctors’ Federation has taken this measure. This reduces the risk of new infections by doctors and possible further transmission of the virus in the healthcare setting.
Our work will continue as usual, but from now on we will deal with meetings in a different way. The KNMG and its federation partners advise doctors to follow suit. Doctors are at increased risk because they are in contact with patients. The KNMG naturally wants doctors to be able to continue their work.
The new measure is not a guideline for all situations. Individual doctors continue to have their own responsibility. With this advice, the Doctors' Federation hopes to help doctors to make a well-founded decision whether or not to attend a meeting.
